  • Wax Resist drawing and ink painting workshop 09 may 2026

Many thanks to the attendees for being apart of the first workshop at The Old Vic Studio Gallery space. Was great fun to watch people create with imagination and flare for a technique that allows the artist to make an image from the imagination rather than the expectation.

Drawing white pencil on white paper the challenge is to let go and become more expressive with the line and people are encouraged to make the image not as they want to see it but what you can create without seeing it in its entire construction.

When the Ink is added once the drawing white wax pencil on white watercolour paper the participants put the ink on the page either wet with water or brushed on. This then reveals all the space that the white line has left behind to show the image in its raw imaginative moment.

(next workshop on the 16th of May is with two colours of ink and using carbon paper to etch into the finished work as next level of Wax resist conceptual imaginative drawing technique).

    Wax Resist Workshop.

    May 07, 2026

    Overview

The objective of Wax resist white wax pencil on white watercolour paper is to allow people to draw and paint without preconceived ideas of what something should look like when creating. Teaching a perception of letting ones imagination flow and when the ink is applied the reveal is like watching the magic of a photograph developing in the black ink’s way of running across the wax pencils line to reveal a new kind of painting beyond expectation.
